Retro-A-Go-Go Robin RipleyVancouver, BC Dimension 20.5" x 20.5" Médium Mixed medium and assemblage on paper This work probes the aesthetics of what we collect and display, and the often blurry boundaries between art and decoration. The title playfully echoes its eclectic materials and the decorator colour swatch for which it is named. Materiality is central to my practice. My work often draws attention to the overlooked, transforming vernacular materials to emphasize the interrelationships of art and life and the composite nature of perception. My use of cast-off materials also suggests alternative narratives for both the environment and the creative process. Retro-A-Go-Go Robin RipleyVancouver, BC À propos de l'artiste À propos de l'artiste Robin RipleyVancouver, BC I am a graduate of Emily Carr and a long -time resident of Vancouver where I exhibit regularly and have been involved in a number of collaborative and community-based art projects. Exploring how we respond to the ordinary things that surround us has been a recurring theme in my work and mirrors my interest in both the formal qualities and cultural history of objects.
