Thrice Supported (In the Anthropocene Age) Peter AdamsCollingwood, ON Size 25.5" x 31.5" Medium Oil on Canvas Much of my work has centred on human engagement with the landscape. I have long been interested in the realm in which human and natural worlds meet—both in harmony and in opposition. I discovered this ancient sugar maple at Jackson’s Point on the south shore of Lake Simcoe. The hollow of the trunk has been filled with (now crumbling) concrete and rebar. Many of the limbs are optimistically supported by posts of steel and wood. The bolstered tree seemed a great symbol of the complex relationship we humans have with the natural world in this Anthropocene era.
