The roots of this tree spread out to gather water, hold the ground, and anchor and sustain the tree. During these Covid days, we, like the trees in winter, have turned inward. It is a chance to nourish our roots. Many of the things that normally sustain us—family, friends, community—are not so easy to access, or at least not in ways that we are accustomed to. It is like a time of drought—our roots and emotions are often closer to the surface.

Terri Bibby
Salt Spring Island, BC

Terri Bibby offers workshops and retreats on SAORI weaving and clothing design in her studio in the woods on Salt Spring Island. Her weaving is inspired by the ever-changing colours of nature that surround her. Terri started weaving over 30 years ago in Edmonton, joined the Weavers Guild, and took the Master Weaver’s program at Olds College. Terri first encountered SAORI weaving in 2005, shortly after moving to the island. The freedom, the colours, the textures, and the beautiful philosophy of SAORI were life-changing. Since then, she has immersed herself in the philosophy and practice of SAORI weaving.
