On the Verge Anette SchrageSalt Spring Island, BC Size 28" x 42" Medium Digital artwork based on original photography, direct print on HD Metal As part of my work with the concept of Liminal Spaces & States, “On the Verge” depicts a home having been ripped open before demolition. The structure’s transformation leaves personal belongings naked and exposed to the elements, making it a powerful symbol for the experience of homelessness. The surreal appearance takes the image beyond being a mere mirror of reality to a deeper ethical level, asking moral questions about human rights and social justice. My artwork explores the sometimes painful rootless state between what was and what comes next, examining emotions involved with physical and psychological transformation.
