With my on-going, formal application of extension cords, I have rediscovered the work—originally showed at Ace Art Inc. in 2013—with a deliberate juxtaposition of “white pedestal” and other elements of light and sound appliances within the concealed object. There is subdued tension between fixed immobility and traces of dynamic action through winding process which is both ephemeral and endless.

Dong-Kyoon Nam holds MFA in Sculpture from University of Victoria, BC and BFA from University of Windsor, ON. His work has been exhibited at the Sculpture Society of Canada (Toronto, ON), Open Space (Victoria, BC), Centre A (Vancouver, BC), Deluge Contemporary (Victoria, BC), The Michael Audain Gallery (Victoria, BC), Truck (AB) and the Centre des arts actuels SKOL(Montreal, QC). Born and raised in South Korea, Nam currently lives, works in Winnipeg and has been the recipient of Manitoba Arts Council’s Creation and Production Grants in the Visual Arts. Alongside the use of provisional, found materials, and mixture of light and sound element, Nam has been engaged with formal concerns within sculptural practice while examining viewer’s subtle but precarious interaction, the sculptural thing-ness, and the wider sensorial nature of perception within the space where the things are located.
