Edition 1/1 In the “Search for Solace” series, I photographed local Manitoba landscapes in my search for solace after a personal loss. I altered black and white photographs by painting with oil paints and drawing with ink that reflected my feelings of grief. The images were influenced by the Symbolist Movement in their ideas to show an inner mood. In my grieving journey, unexpected emotions arose that triggered memories from childhood, both unpleasant and good. Her photography subjects involve portraiture, food, and landscapes. Her inspiration in her work reflects personal experiences in family and friends’ portraiture, concerns in food waste, and grief that led to experimentation in hand painting and drawing to camera-less images. Neufeld resides near Niverville, Manitoba. She is the recipient of BMO 1st! Art invitational Student Competition as a regional winner. Her work has been published in ART Habens Review.
