for hambone, metis billy stick is a remaking of an object originally created by the artist’s mooshum. The original billy stick was made from a place of humour and love. The act of recreating the billy stick is a collaboration; the design and making of the sheath is a gift.

Audie Murray is a multi-disciplinary artist who works with various materials including beadwork, textiles, repurposed objects, drawing, and photography. She is Michif and grew up in Saskatchewan, Treaty 4 territory. Murray currently creates and learns on the unceded territories of the Songhees, Esquimalt and WSÁNEĆ peoples (Victoria, BC). She completed a visual arts diploma at Camosun College in 2016 and her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Regina in 2017. Her visual arts practice explores connection, bodies, gifting, and collaboration with ancestors. In 2018 Murray was a recipient of the Hnatyshyn Foundation/William and Meredith Saunderson Prizes for young artists. Her works have shown at various events and spaces in Canada including Open Space, Victoria (BC), La Guilde, Montréal (QC), the Alberta Art Gallery, Edmonton (AB), the Clay and Glass Gallery, Waterloo (ON), Hamilton Artist Inc (ON), and the Justina M. Barnicke Gallery, Toronto (ON).
