Earth Scars #12: Mirny Diamond Mine Peter AdamsCreemore, ON Size 36" x 36" Medium Mixed media on canvas Traditionally an oil painter, this series has allowed me to further my experiments in mixed media. Inspired by the massive Mirny diamond mine in Siberia, this particular piece features conte, acrylic washes, paint markers, oil sticks and oil paint. I am interested in the duality between revealing something that is potentially horrific but also something that’s remarkable—perhaps even beautiful. Earth Scars #12: Mirny Diamond Mine Peter AdamsCreemore, ON About the artist About the artist Peter AdamsCreemore, ON Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Peter Adams has a degree in film studies from Queen's University but now directs all his creative energy toward paining. After moving from Toronto to a farm near Creemore, Ontario in 1998, he began to investigate places in which human and natural worlds meet—both in harmony and opposition. "Since moving from an urban to a rural setting, I have spent many years exploring the surrounding landscape and the ever-changing human relationship with landscape. The unprecedented demand for limestone aggregate in Ontario led me to research the largest holes in the earth. Since that time, I have focused on landscapes transformed by humans in other parts of the world. I see the paintings in my Earth Scars Series as reflecting pools for a discourse on our relationship with landscape and our changing attitudes toward resources." Follow on social
