“A Culture of Wealth” is a reflection on the ways in which capitalism has changed and disintegrated many areas of Inuit culture. In this work, Inuit myths, such as Sedna, are reinterpreted, while ancestors and spirits watch over us as we (Inuit) learn to process these influences and reconnect with our culture.

Annie Pillaktuaq is an Inuit artist and jewellery maker from Iqaluit, Nunavut. Currently, she is based between the Greater Toronto Area, where she paints from her studio, and Ottawa. She works primarily with acrylic on canvas. Pillaktuaq favours deep colours and bold lines, which often lead to the creation of pieces that are eccentric and edgy, but unpretentious. Her style is influenced by cubism, but her subject matter reflects Inuit culture and ways of knowing. As an artist with disability, Pillaktuaq uses her works as an expression of her experiences and thoughts. Art is her way of communicating with the world.
