Channel Ridge Arbutus Judy ChappusSalt Spring Island, BC Size 24" x 18" Medium Mixed media on handmade paper Inspired by traditional botanical drawings and the Pacific Coast ecosystem, “Field Work” is a work in progress that endeavours to collect and document through mono-printing, drawing, painting, and storytelling, intimate experiences observed while hiking. Cartography will also be considered, including citing latitude, longitude, and ring counting to determine the age of felled trees in specific areas. Found pattern, form, and colour in combination with representational imagery will result in a large-scale book of artworks to be displayed either as individual pieces or bound together. Channel Ridge Arbutus Judy ChappusSalt Spring Island, BC About the artist About the artist Judy ChappusSalt Spring Island, BC Judy Chappus's recent accomplishments include a collaborative podcast with SSI Community Radio, and exhibiting with The Exhibitionists of Windsor, Ontario, and the Association of Roman Catholic Women Priests (ARCWP). She is a founder of The Exhibitionists, which has created community projects exploring cultural beliefs since 2014. In 2020, she published a book of poetry titled Chop Shop. This work is part of the rare books collection at the University of Windsor. Her work was selected for the 2021 SSI Mural Project. Since arriving on Salt Spring Island in October 2020, she has been exploring the bio-eccentric landscape, ecopsychology, and the systemic indifference to stewardship. Follow on social
