We are deeply saddened by the passing of Joan McConnell, whose vision, generosity, and love of the arts helped make the Salt Spring National Art Prize possible.

It was through Joan’s passion for celebrating Canadian artists that SSNAP was born. Since the very first prize in 2015, she has supported and inspired this community—as a founder, a donor, and a lifelong advocate for creativity and cultural exchange.

Joan’s spirit lives on in every exhibition, every artist supported, and every conversation her dream continues to spark.
