In 1971 Helen Betty Osborne, a 19-year-old Cree woman, was murdered in northern Manitoba. It took 16 years before only 1 of her 4 assailants was ever convicted. Silence and indifference ruled. This dress is done in her memory. Like lives, sticks are fragile and silk is beautiful. Like red dresses, memories fade and become grey but like rocks they last.
