Counter-beaded giclee print
My family encouraged me to only acknowledge my settler side as was common for Métis families in that time, so I leaned on pop culture including comic books to inform my indigeneity. This one, authored by a Christian group, shows the martyr, Father Brebeuf, being confronted by a ‘warrior’. To create balance in this narrative, I beaded a matriarchal flower nesting smaller ‘forget-me-nots’ within. I used bright orange fading to light orange, then white. The blue-grey beads on this piece have touched the 375-year-old relic (skull) of Brebeuf, making my artwork a third-class relic.
