train flattened Canadian pennies
Anagram explores the legacy of colonial violence through train-flattened pennies, invoking the railway as a symbol of extractive power, forced displacement, and the exploitation of Chinese workers. Each coin—once currency, now artifact—bears the weight of empire and industry. Through hand-riveting, I engage in a slow, tactile process that reclaims these objects from their mechanized origins. The act is repetitive and intimate; it becomes a form of resistance to erasure. By altering these tokens of commerce and control, I create a material language that speaks to resilience, memory, and the personal labour of witnessing and repair.

Yen-Chao LinMontreal, Québec
Yen-Chao Lin is a Taipei-born Montreal-based visual artist. Having grown up in a multifaith family attending Sunday mass, Buddhist ceremonies, and New Age conferences with her mother, she is interested in spirituality, dowsing, alchemy, and power. A natural history enthusiast and an avid collector, she gathers specimens of mineral, botanical, animal and industrial origins and investigates how cultural heritage and personal hauntology intertwine through divination arts and folklore. By means of intuitive play, collaboration, and scavenging, her tactile practice often incorporates various craft techniques, such as vitreous enameling, metalsmithing, and glass, culminatiing in installations, sculptures, and experimental films.
