Since 2017, the Salt Spring National Art Prize has showcased and celebrated artists with an exhibition and a series of awards. The 2025/26 SSNAP Finalists Exhibition will be held at Mahon Hall on Salt Spring Island this fall – September 27 through to October 19, 2025

To support this popular event, the Salt Spring National Art Prize Society is seeking a contract Assistant Show Manager.

Assistant Show Manager Duties

The Assistant Show Manager assists the SSNAP Show Manager with the smooth operations of the SSNAP gallery and the safety of all gallery attendees and volunteers, ensuring a friendly and welcoming experience for all visitors. The Assistant Show Manager will assist in managing art and catalogue sales, track visitors and respond to general inquiries.

Responsibilities

  • Gain knowledge and familiarity with the exhibition and scheduled programming.
  • Be knowledgeable about the exhibition artists and the artwork in the exhibition.
  • Be onsite to assist with the management of the gallery and support the Show Manager as required.:
  • Assist with the exhibition installation *date to be determined by Show Manager
    • Exhibition: 5 days per week (7 hr/day) – Total of 15 days between September 24 – October 24, 2025. Exact schedule to be negotiated with the Show Manager.
    • Assisting with packing and shipping of unsold artworks back to artists as well as sold artworks to buyers as required (after the close of the exhibition).
    • Some flexibility of days may be arranged in advance.
  • Assist the Operation Manager in managing the Gallery:
    • Welcome and track visitors
    • Track and orient volunteers to their gallery shifts
    • Manage art and catalogue sales
    • Maintain effective and respectful communication with all Mahon Hall/ Arts Council staff
    • Ensure safety of visitors and exhibition, including ensuring adherence to Gallery safety protocols.
  • Assist the Show Manager in facilitating visits and artist events:
    • Help organize and facilitate youth visits
    • Help facilitate group tours during the exhibition
    • Help facilitate artist talks sessions

Ideal Candidate

  • Able to work with artists and volunteers as well as the public
  • Detail oriented
  • Excellent customer service
  • Availability on weekends
  • Knowledge of visual arts, gallery environment and sales are strong assets

Remuneration

The SSNAP Assistant Show Manager will be expected to work approximately 15 working days for an honorarium of $2,750. This position is a temporary contract position.
