Birch Corset 2 Rebekah MillerDawson City, YT Size 20" x 12" x 10" Medium Birch bark, sinew, lace, porcupine quills, hardware, unframed Within our clothing, we find our identities, ourselves, and to some extent, our homes. We inhabit our clothing as we do our skins. The work “Birch Corset 2” asserts the human presence through the absence of the form implied. Created through the act of skinning and gathering bark from birch trees, the corset is a vessel by which the viewer may enter into the forest and primordial dwelling. The corset epitomizes the relationship which I see existing between human culture and the natural realm—a relationship that both celebrates and subjugates in the attempt to define the human.
