Mia Daniels is an artist and researcher from the West Coast of Canada. Having an intimate relationship with the environment—growing up in the coastal mountains and surfing in the cold Pacific Ocean—is a key factor underpinning her work, at times paradoxically woven within the appropriation of ready-made found, lost or discarded remnants of consumer culture. Evidence of a lived culture, the materials create a framework for highlighting assumptions and questioning behaviours, beliefs and values. Embedded with notions of adaptability and improvisation, Mia's work speaks to creative and cultural diversities celebrated through expressions of potentiality and freedom: open, non-fictional narratives are created, flexible in terms of concept and form.
Mia graduated from Emily Carr University of Art + Design with a Bachelor of Design, 2014. In 2016 she was awarded two Artist in Residencies: AIR The Point Gallery, Salt Spring Island (2016); AIR Textile Arts Center, Brooklyn, New York (2016-2017).
