I wanted to play with the shifting locus of memory and the blurring of reality by mixing, re-shuffling and juxtaposing multiple splices into synthesized representations that offer entry into the limitless speculative possibilities. I know a bank where the wild thyme blows Kae SasakiWinnipeg, MB About the artist About the artist Kae SasakiWinnipeg, MB Winnipeg-based painter Kae Sasaki obtained her B.A. in German literature from Rikkyo University, Tokyo and B.F.A. Honours at School of Art, University of Manitoba, where she received the Alice Hamilton Prize for excellence in painting. She was a Kingston Prize finalist in 2015 and 2017 and is represented by Gurevich Fine Art Gallery. Her work speaks of the complexity of modern identity, and displacement that can be felt when straddling different cultures. Sasaki seeks an imaginative revitalisation of the narrative and atmospheric potential of painting. She negotiates the ability of painting to create visual worlds that are both familiar and extraordinary. As the psychological component takes over, symbols and other elements are added to bring them forward so that the painting will open up in a multi-vocal way. Follow on social
