Moving along Jeff WilsonVancouver, BC Size 36" x 36" Medium acrylic on canvas This piece depicts a common sight in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside; a guy cycling along the street with a supermarket shopping cart, loaded with his worldly goods. I wanted to produce a socially relevant positive image of life in the neighbourhood, illustrating the resilience of marginalized people in the face of adversity. Moving along Jeff WilsonVancouver, BC About the artist About the artist Jeff WilsonVancouver, BC Jeff is a Scottish-Canadian painter based in Vancouver. His paintings are inspired by everyday observations of subjects that illustrate a story or issue distinctive to a given place. Compositions are characteristically cropped and asymmetric, and canvases are rendered with strong brushwork, and a rich, commonly vivid palette. Jeff has a number of collections currently exhibiting in Western Canada and USA. A collection, inspired by a residence in the Shetland Islands last year, premiered at Maple Ridge Art Gallery earlier this year. A recent grant from the Vancouver Foundation inspired completion of a collection depicting Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, which is scheduled to exhibit at the Cultch in Vancouver in 2016.
