The way in which I am Pushing my medium of basketry in this piece is to explore ways to combine my love of bark weaving with my love of wood and woodworking. I grew up watching my dad in his workshop refinish and make furniture. My mom was a fibre artist who quilted and hooked rugs. She loved geometrical patterns. This piece brings together parts of both of them at a time of year – April – when they both happened to pass away. It was lovely to feel their spirit with me as I made my cuts on the bandsaw and wove my strips of bark.
