Size 2.3m H x 1m L x 20cm W Zap is an International One Metre (IOM) racing yacht. She is built to conform to a very strict set of rules for the IOM class, which is raced worldwide. Zap is the 17th IOM that Martin has built and the 12th one that he has designed. She was launched this year and is currently in sea trials. This class is radio controlled with two channels operating the rudder and sail sheeting. All the tuning is preset before each race dependant on the wind and water conditions. The boat has three sailing rigs that are switched, getting smaller as the wind increases, and is capable of sailing in over 40 knots of wind. The boat carries 120 grams of internal lead ballast to bring her up to class weight restrictions of 4 KG. Martin’s previous boats have twice won the Costal Cup Championship and the Wooden IOM National Championship for Canada.
