{"id":17182,"date":"2020-11-11T16:57:08","date_gmt":"2020-11-11T16:57:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saltspringartprize.ca\/?p=17182"},"modified":"2020-11-11T16:57:08","modified_gmt":"2020-11-11T16:57:08","slug":"interview-with-ron-crawford","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/saltspringartprize.ca\/fr\/news\/interview-with-ron-crawford\/","title":{"rendered":"Preview &#8211; Interview with Ron Crawford"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>SSNAP 20-21 is grateful for Preview Magazine\u2019s contribution as a media sponsor and applaud its commitment to the arts in Canada!\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #333333; font-size: 22px;\">THE SALT SPRING NATIONAL ART PRIZE IS BACK!<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>As founding director of the biennial\u00a0Salt Spring National Art Prize,\u00a0I am very pleased to announce\u00a0the opening of the call for submissions\u00a0on January 1 for SSNAP\u00a02021\/2022, offering over $30,000\u00a0in awards. Next fall\u2019s will be the\u00a0fourth Finalists\u2019 Exhibition, and the\u00a0show\u2019s growth into one of the premier\u00a0Canadian art events is a testimony\u00a0to both the need of Canadian\u00a0artists for this opportunity and the\u00a0hard work of a dedicated group of\u00a0volunteers, artists, and community\u00a0members of Salt Spring Island.<\/p>\n<p>Right from the beginning, SSNAP was created by artists for artists. It was from these initial\u00a0conversations that I realized the idea of SSNAP. Unlike other national art platforms, SSNAP is\u00a0not government funded and not supported by a major corporation. We are largely funded by a\u00a0group of donors who believe in the event\u2019s importance and are involved in its production. The\u00a0emphasis is on the work submitted itself, not on the professional resum\u00e9 of the artist. We have\u00a0both emerging and established artists showing together. This is unique on the national stage.<\/p>\n<p>The event aims to give artists here on Salt Spring Island the opportunity to see new and\u00a0diverse artistic expression while at the same time inviting artists across the country to experience\u00a0one of the most creative communities in the world.
